Easy Photo Printing Helps You Share Family History

There are many ways to share family history. Some like to collect letters, or speak with older relatives and write down what they say. Others like to use audio recordings to create a bank of narratives of family stories. Still others simply like to collect photos and carefully place them in photo albums, with a short note or entry included.

All of these methods alone are great – they are attempts to preserve the past. But all of these methods alone still fall short of truly capturing a family’s history.

The best of all three worlds would be to have a written document, with audio recordings available, and photos included for easy browsing. Now, some might say that video accomplishes this task. However, who has time to sit through a video? Who really wants to? Videos are something like slideshows of the past. In a bygone era, people used to take photo slides of their vacations. Then, they’d invite friends and neighbors over to view their hours long presentation. Virtually no one enjoyed those sessions.

Video is much the same way. Even sites like YouTube feature videos that are extremely short – at the most three to five minutes. After that, you lose everyone’s interest.

So, if you can’t really show a video that’s much longer than five minutes and expect everyone to pay attention, how are you going to record the entire history of a family on video?

That’s why easy photo printing sites are so important when it comes to preserving memories. However, most of those only allow you to upload photos and write some text about the photos.

You can create a lovely story book or photo album complete with pictures and written words. You can have these printed, and delivered to family members who can review them in their free time, at a pace they are comfortable with. When you visit their homes, you can sit with them and – perhaps over a cup of coffee – you can look at your family’s history and reminisce to your hearts’ content.

That’s great … but you’re still only two-thirds of the way there. You still have to capture the audio.

There are very few sites that allow you to add audio to your photos. Search “easy photo sharing” or “easy photo printing” to find some.

Now, some people may not want to create audio stories. It can be difficult to get the recordings you need. However, saving some voices is better than saving none. Imagine hearing the voice of your grandfather again, telling one of your favorite stories that you remember from childhood, or perhaps giving you words of wisdom that may have been lost to memory.

Whether you decide to include audio in your family history or not, at least you know the resource is available. The most important thing is that you preserve family memories that are precious to you, and will be even more precious to your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Voice Recording Adds A New Dimension To Photo Sharing

In case you haven’t noticed, photo sharing websites are really sophisticated. Today, you can do more than just save and share your precious memories! You can add a whole new dimension to each photo that really brings them alive. How? Check out the new audio recording feature. It’s totally amazing! Not only can you see all the wonderful images, now you can actually hear voices of the people you love.

Last week, I was searching for a site to post and share my latest batch of photos. I went on Google and searched “easy photo sharing” (you can use any of the popular search engines), and in seconds I was looking at a fantastic new feature that will add a entire new dimension to preserving your memories . . . voice recording.

Adding your voice adds so much more to your photos

Imagine being able to listen to your child’s voice from when they were just three or four ears old Or being able to hear your Dad’s voice again several years after his passing! I had tears in my eyes as I imagined the amazing possibilities. Instead of just seeing merely a photo, I could hear the voices of my friends and loved ones.

Immediately my mind filled in the blanks with a flood of forgotten memories. My mind raced back in time to some of those really special moments with my little girl — brushing her hair before she went off to preschool, helping pick out her outfits, even teaching her to ride her bicycle.

If easy photo sharing is all about memories, here is the ultimate experience. A particular moment is frozen poignantly, unforgettably. And I can’t tell you how incredible it all feels to tell the story behind the story. It adds a whole new dimension to easy photo sharing.

You can actually create dynamic presentations — complete with words, voice over and background music! And the people who are nearest and dearest to you can add their memories to your stories with photos, words and voice. The possibilities are endless . . . and totally awesome!

It’s easier than you think to add your voice to your photos

Believe me, I’m not an expert when it comes to the computer. But these photo sharing sites are so simple and easy. They walk you through everything step-by-step.

I was so inspired and my creative juices just got flowing. In no time, I created scrapbooks just like a professional. These were beautiful presentation books I know would be passed down from generation to generation.

I’m so lucky I found this when I did! My daughter’s Sweet 16 is right around the corner and I’m creating a customized photo album jam-packed with everyone’s photos from the time she was little. It’s a real living legacy complete with the voices of all her friends and loved ones.

So, if you want to stay connected as you never have before, check out how easy it is to share photos online. There’s a whole new world of possibilities waiting for you.

It’s Easy to Access Free Online Photo Storage

Accessing Free Online Photo Storage Space

A lot of websites on the Internet promise you a lot of different things, but they don’t always make it easy to get them. Some websites are simply not very user friendly, and even if they offer things like free online photo storage space, you may have some trouble figuring out how to access it. Fortunately, many of these sites work similarly, so if you understand one, you shouldn’t have any trouble understanding most of the others.

The first thing you’ll likely have to do on any photo sharing and storage website is sign up for a new account. If you’ve been on the Internet for any length of time, then you’ll already know the drill. You’ll most likely have to enter your name, date of birth, and possibly some other basic information. Then, you’ll choose a user name and password. In some cases, your username will simply be your email address. You should be sure to choose a password that is appropriately difficult to crack. You wouldn’t want some malicious person to get in and delete all of your photos.

Once you’ve chosen a password, you’ll probably be given an opportunity to sign up for some sort of newsletter from the website. It’s up to you if you want to take part – but it may be worthwhile if you plan to use the site often. You can learn about upcoming features and useful tips through newsletters such as these.

Once you’ve signed up for the service, you may need to go through an additional step to verify it. Usually, the site will send you an email with a link in it. Following the link should activate your account. In some cases you won’t need to go through this step. Either way, you’ll probably find yourself at site’s main menu at this point. From here, uploading your pictures into the site’s free online photo storage should be a snap.

Look for an option that offers you the ability to “upload” or “import” your photos. If you can’t find such an option from the main menu, you may need to find some sort of main photo subsection first. Once you’ve located the option to upload your photos, most of the work is done. The interface that actually allows you to perform uploads will vary from site to site, but chances are it will be familiar to your operating system’s standard file manipulation interface. You can probably just drag and drop photos, or even entire folders, from your hard drive on to the website’s free online photo storage space. The number of pictures you can upload at once will vary depending on the site. On some photo sharing sites, you can upload hundreds of photos at a time.

Once you’ve reached that point, its simply an issue of waiting for the upload process to finish. If you have a lot of photos to upload, it could take awhile. Just be patient, or consider leaving your computer to the task overnight. Once it’s finished, you can start with another batch if you like. You can have your whole collection uploaded in no time.

Advanced Photo Taking Tips

Online photo sharing is a fun way to share your favorite photos with friends and family. Needless to say, when you post your pictures up on a website for all to see, you want people to look at them. The thing about pictures, though, is that just because one has been taken doesn’t necessarily mean it’s worth looking at. No one wants to look at picture after picture that is too dark, too washed out, crooked, or otherwise just not pleasant to look at.

As important as it is to choose the right camera and learn how to properly edit photos, learning to take good photos in the first place is absolutely vital. A bad picture can only be improved so much with editing, so you should aim to make every picture you take a great picture. While photography is an art, that doesn’t mean that an amateur can’t take amazing pictures to share with their friends and family.

A Few Useful Tips

The first tip to keep in mind, especially when taking pictures of people, is to get in close where the details will really stand up. This will, of course, make a lot of people nervous, but if you can get them to let their guard down you can take some great pictures. If you get too far away, you can’t clearly see people’s facial expressions and features – so what’s the point of taking a picture of them anyway? This isn’t to suggest you stand right next to your subject, but don’t be afraid to get a little closer than you might otherwise.

Secondly, keep in mind that people aren’t statues. While it can be tempting to try and catch your subjects in the center of the frame every time, this can quickly grow stale. Of course, you don’t want your subject to be off at the corner of the photo, but setting the subject just a tiny bit off center can make for more interesting pictures. If you’re uncomfortable with the idea, you should experiment – just take the picture as you normally would, and then take another one with this suggestion in mind.

When taking pictures of friends and family, try to avoid always organizing the picture, getting everyone to sit in some predetermined place, and telling them to smile. Most people aren’t great actors, and their fake smiles look obviously fake. Instead, try catching your subjects when they aren’t enjoying a moment of genuine mirth. Or, instead of using some cliché like “say cheese,” save a good joke or story for right before you shoot the picture. That way, you’ll get a genuine smile that will be all the more memorable.

The most important tip for the aspiring photographer is just to keep taking pictures. As the saying goes, “practice makes perfect.” Keep taking pictures, expanding your photo collection, and getting comments from those who view your photos. In no time you’ll learn exactly how to take the best pictures you and your camera are capable of taking.

Photo Galleries and Display

How will your photos be displayed? Do you have a choice? Are there ads on the site?

There are many different types of galleries, some more sophisticated than others. A common display method is to show thumbnails of an album. You can then click on a thumbnail to get a larger view. Other types of displays might be slideshows, collages or stacking. With stacking, clicking on the top photo brings you to the next one. Fotki offers this option, among other choices.

Free and Premium Accounts

Most photo sharing sites offer both free and premium accounts. Premium accounts have a fee associated with them, but they offer more features. So take a look to see if the free account is adequate for you or if perhaps some of the upgrades are important.

Photo Printing

If one of your main objects is to send your digital photos out to be printed, check around because pricing can vary. In addition, different types of papers are used and delivery or pick up times are different.

Printing quality should be checked out also. Some sites will give you free photos on your first order, and this is a great way to try a site out.

Privacy Options

Do you want only certain people to view your photos, or would you like them available to everyone? Sites may or may not offer privacy options, but most do. Sometimes when photos are public, they will also appear in such places as Google Images. This may or may not be something that you want to occur.

Backup

Although there are many backup methods, you can use photo sharing sites as a backup system. Look for one that keeps your original file size. Some that do, charge for an Archive CD if you never need to get those photos back.

Communities

Forums, contests, and blogs can all be part of a site. If you are interested in “socializing”, look for these features.

Photo Removal

Make sure the site does not remove your photos after a certain period of time. For example, Kodak Gallery has the right to do this if you do not purchase an item (even one 4 x 6 print) within 12 months.

Take a look at a few photo sharing sites to see which one you like. You can try most of them out for free.

Some sites you might consider are SmugMug, Kodak Gallery, Shutterfly, Picasa Web Albums, and Fotki.

History Of Easy Photo Printing

History of photo printing

It’s amazing that photo printing – something that used to involve a lot of time and effort – can now be referred to as “photo printing.” Just a few short years ago, getting a photo print meant going through a wide variety of steps, not the least of which involved buying film, taking it to the processor, getting back a bunch of prints you really didn’t want, etc.

In fact, it has gone beyond simple convenience. photo printing is partly responsible for a worldwide surge in creativity. People who never thought of themselves as creative are now taking digital pictures, uploading them to the web and then outputting their work with photo printing.

This is all thanks to the technological innovations in the digital age. Just a few years ago, we were all still fumbling with loading film in camera. (Ever load it backwards? Or forget to load it completely? Don’t be ashamed, most of us did both at one time or another.) No matter who you are or where you live, it’s hard to escape the digital photographic boom that’s happening online.

photo printing – not so easy in 1839

Think back to the very old days of photography – it began in 1839 and was isolated to people who understood how chemicals interacted. It took most of a day and a lot of preparation to get just a couple of photos – so much for photo printing.

The type of “photo printing” process they used in 1839 is still very similar to what is used today. It’s basically a five-step process that requires a darkroom, multiple trays filled with chemicals, some a bit dangerous, expensive equipment, and a lot of time.

Now there is a place for this type of photo printing – for people who really enjoy the process, artists who want to get a certain effect, hobbyists, etc. People still have film cameras, darkrooms, light sensitive paper, and lots of fun exploring this fascinating art form. It truly has its rewards. However, in this day and age, it is not photo printing.

Innovation brings photo printing to the masses

Photography started to really change in about 1900, with the introduction of simple cameras that were really just black boxes with a lens and film. The advent of these cameras was the first revolution in photo printing and photography – at last this highly expressive art form was open to the masses.

photo printing was within reach to anyone who could afford to buy the camera and process the film. Since the cameras only cost about $ 1 – a lot in those days but still affordable – many people who had never taken a picture before in their life were snapping pictures like crazy.

The next innovation in photo printing didn’t happen until the 1940s with the advent of the “land camera.” At first glance, this camera looked simple – but what it could do revolutionized the way we defined photo printing.

These land cameras could produce a picture on the spot. You simply took the picture and waited for the print to come out of the camera. When it did, you just had to let it sit for a minute or two, and voila, you had photo printing, right then and there!

There were drawbacks, however. The picture’s came in a small size, and if you touched the print too soon, it smudged. The camera was really just a way to get fast, photo printing into the marketplace.

Internet revolutionizes photo printing

Not much changed until the Internet boom of the 1990s, but even then, digital photography was just a few years behind Internet technology. But when the camera technology caught up, the combination of digital photography and the world wide web was unstoppable. In the early 2000s, more and more websites offering photo printing services cropped up.

Now, you can simply go online, upload your photos to a photo sharing website, and then have your photos printed and delivered directly to your door. And the quality is amazing – probably better than what a standard film processor could have ever offered in the old days.

Of course, since the technology folks are constantly looking for ways to innovate and make our lives easier, it’s a sure bet that even more methods for photo printing will appear in the near future.

Ghastly Arches

Not sure why I’m posting this photo but I guess I just wanted to demonstrate the effects of ‘compression’. For this photo taken at the South Bank Parklands Brisbane, I used an 85mm f/1.8 lens to squeeze the arches together much like how a photographer would stack layers of mountains together. This gives the photo more of a compressed feel as opposed to using a wide angle lens to stretch the perspective out.

After getting back home, I then threw the photo into Lightroom and processed it in black and white. I used abit of split toning to change the traditional monotone look by adding a slight blue tinge to the shadows and a rustic brown tone to the highlights.

Photo is shared under CC and is free to download, use and play around with as always 🙂
